OVERVIEW
Prospective clients often tell us that there are many other excellent structural monitoring service providers on the market — so why should they choose us?
Here is what sets us apart.
The MS Gecko Monitoring System goes above and beyond traditional structural monitoring. Unlike other service providers, we use Distributed Structural Health Monitoring (DSHM) to generate highly sensitive and extremely accurate insights into the structural integrity of your systems in real time.
What does that mean for you and your business?
To put it simply, as soon as the MS Gecko system detects an abnormal event, it sends automatic notifications to your designated team members. That allows you to make informed decisions and take appropriate and timely action when and as needed.
What’s more, our structural health monitoring services are available during the construction phase, as well as throughout the service life of your assets. That way, this state-of-the-art technology can help you build smarter and more resilient structures, prolong their lifecycle, consume less power, and reduce maintenance costs.
In addition to using groundbreaking technologies, we pride ourselves on our strong work ethic and excellent customer service. Our experts are always available, whether it is to answer your questions or provide you with solutions tailored for your business. Not only are we going to support you every step of the way, but we will also make sure that you receive the best service possible.
Methodology and Technology
The MS Gecko Monitoring System employs both Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) and Fiber Optics Sensing Technology.
We use custom MEMS technology for each project, such as:
- Multifunction inclinometers
- Accelerometers and magnetometers
- Strain gauges
- Wind speed and pressure sensors
- Humidity and temperature sensors
- Highly-integrated system-on-chip (SoC) devices
However, for more aggressive environments and larger sites, we use fiber-optic sensors. With fiber-optic sensing, an optical fiber can be used as a distributed sensor to measure, monitor, and analyze anomalies in strain, temperature, and movement.
Not only does this two-pronged approach maximize accuracy and effectiveness, but it also allows us to cater to a wide variety of structures and locations — including locations where others have failed.

REAL-TIME MONITORING
The MS Gecko Structural Health Monitoring System provides instantaneous feedback on the health of your infrastructure.

STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY
We use the latest innovations in structural monitoring technology in order to deliver detailed analytics, highly sensitive damage detection, and in-depth needs assessment.

LONGER ASSET SERVICE LIFE & REDUCED COSTS
Real-time monitoring allows you to detect damage before it reaches a point of no return. As a result, that extends the lifecycle of your systems and reduces maintenance and service costs.

REDUCED DOWNTIME
The more serious the damage, the longer it takes to repair. Real-time feedback helps avoid system shutdowns due to time-consuming troubleshooting and repairs.

MS Gecko Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) and Nanoelectromechanical Systems (NEMS) Technology
Micro-electro-mechanical systems make up the technology of microscopic devices. These can be relatively simple and with no moving elements as well as highly complex systems with multiple moving parts.
MEMS devices are typically between 20 micrometers to a millimeter in size, while their parts range between 1 to 100 micrometers.
A MEMS device usually comprises several MEMS sensors that interact with the environment. The data they collect is then sent to embedded processors for further analysis.
Some MEMS applications that we use include:
- MEMS temperature sensors
- MEMS inclinometers
- MEMS accelerometers
- MEMS oscillators
- MEMS microphones
- An RF MEMS switches
- A MEMS optical actuator
- MEMS humidity sensors
- An inertial measurement unit (IMU), such as a MEMS gyroscope or acetometers
Similarly, nanoelectromechanical systems are MEMS devices that integrate electrical and mechanical functions at the nanoscale.
The extremely sensitive NEMS devices typically combine transistor-like nanoelectronics with mechanical pumps, actuators, or motors in order to create biological, chemical, or physical NEMS sensors.
The MS Gecko Monitoring System employs both MEMS and NEMS technology, including MEMS/NEMS sensors for dynamic applications. The highly sensitive electro-mechanical elements of MEMS/NEMS devices make it possible to detect system events at the nanoscale and as soon as they take place.
Micro-Opto-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MOEMS) Technology
Micro-opto-electro-mechanical systems, also known as optical MEMS, merge MEMS with micro-optics. MOEMS devices are able to sense and manipulate optical signals on a micro scale through a combination of built-in optical, mechanical, and electrical systems.
Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) Technology
Fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) can be used as direct sensing elements for strain and temperature measurements. Fiber Bragg grating sensors employ fiber optic cable technology that reflects particular wavelengths of light. That makes optical fibers altogether indispensable to our structural health monitoring.
Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing Technology
The MS Gecko Monitoring System also features quasi-distributed fiber optic sensors and distributed optical fiber sensors (DOFS) based on Raman, Brillouin, and Rayleigh scattering.
With fiber sensing technology, we can connect opto-electronic interrogators to an optical fiber (or cable), which then converts the fiber into a number of robust fiber optics temperature sensors.
Distributed fiber optic sensing technology is able to utilize laser light backscattered along a strand of optical fiber to measure parameters such as:
- Dynamic Temperature Sensing
- Distributed Strain Sensing (DSS)
- Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS)
With distributed sensing and fiber optic monitoring solutions, we can measure continuously throughout the complete length of the fiber. As a result, we can carry out highly precise, real-time distributed strain and temperature measurement.
